McAlester, Oklahoma has just about everything "the big city" has - all except for the crime, taxes, and pollution, of course. We also have red dirt, blue sky, green grass, and lots of fresh air!
McAlester is a great place to live, for many reasons - but the best thing about McAlester is its people. We share a love for community, our state, and our nation. We are a hard working "Defense Community" and are proud to support our military men and women through the labors of our largest employer - the McAlester Army Ammunitions Plant.
We have a deep rooted history and share a rich cultural heritage with the Choctaw Nation, who is a strong economic partner in our area. Second to our people, our landscape and mild climate will attract and captivate you. On a laid back day here, you can find a million things to do and activities to enjoy.
McAlester is blessed with a top notch public educational system that has no equal in Southeastern Oklahoma. McAlester Public Schools has been recognized numerous times over the past 10 years for its quality educational services. McAlester High School features state-of-the-art science, math, computer and technology labs as well as a digital technology center.
Our town is also quite proud to be home to the Kiamichi Technical Center -a technical vocational education institution where local industry can receive free training for their employees. Eastern Oklahoma State College also has a campus that offers two-year and four-year degree programs.
In the area of health and fitness, McAlester Regional Health Center serves as Southeast Oklahoma's main hospital and has doctor’s clinic owned by the Warren Clinic Medical Group from Tulsa.
